That's my boy!

I found this great little app last night – I uploaded a picture of my middle son Nash. Then it created this flash flie for me…check it out.

It is from the shutterfly folks…very fun. My wife loved it!

Impossible…

I had a great conversation with my 6 year old son Kale this weekend. I don’t remember what we were talking about but he said “That’s impossible Dad”. My heart sunk, that is the last thing I want going through this kids mind.

So I went into 5 minute tirade about how in the year 1905 if you told someone that a person in Iowa could look at a small box a see a person in New York City – I’m sure a lot of “impossibles” would be thrown around.

And that goes for our innovation efforts too – I’m sure when people hear of the plans for The Gazette to innovate there will be more than one “impossible” – but it is not. We must have a five minute tirade and then go forward with our business at hand.

Living History Farms and Innovation

I took a couple of days off this week to go to the Indianola Balloon Festival and Living History Farms and I couldn’t help but think of all the things we are doing with innovation and how it ties together.

With Living History Farms it is so cool – you can go visit a replication of an Indian homestead (approx. 200-250 years old), then a early settlers replication (approx. 150 years old), and then a one hundred year old farm.

These people could innovate. But what struck me as funny – they were talking about the Indians and how they built a structure which they would sleep in and kept it very warm inside (around 50-55 degrees) and then the settles site – which was more of a log cabin and it was usually more like 40 degrees inside.

It blew me away – “Hey settlers, take a look at what the Indians were doing 50 years ago and do that if you want to be 10 degrees warmer tonight!”

It just reminds me to think about some of the past and other industries and we “do what we do”.
