Ecommerce Web Design Guide

We have all heard or read about people who have started their own successful e-commerce website
and earn a nice living off of that website. Many of these stories can be very inspiring to others
who are thinking about starting their own e-commerce website themselves. There are many steps
involved in order for someone to put together a successful e-commerce website. Choosing a good
domain name and web host are the first steps that someone will need to take. Once that is done, they
will need to design their website.

The design of a website is very important and can make or break an e-commerce business. If
you doubt this, think about websites that you have visited in the past. What made you stay at that
website? What made you click out of the website within a few seconds after looking at it? These
are things that we usually don’t give much thought to. If you want to make sure that your visitors
will stay at your website and buy, you are going to want to make sure that your e-commerce site is
designed with your prospective customers in mind.

An organized and easy to navigate website

There is nothing worse than a website that is confusing to shoppers. You will want to make sure
that your website is set up for shoppers to easily find exactly what they are looking for. You will
want to categorize your products and have those categories visible on a top or side menu. Visitors
to your website will want to find the item that they are looking for with the fewest steps possible.
Remember, they have many other e-commerce sites to choose from. If things seem too complicated
for them, they will go search elsewhere. Also, do not forget the importance of having a search bar
on your website. Even though you may have category links, the search bar will be the most widely
used feature that visitors will use to search for the item that they are searching for.

Rich product information and professional pics

When you list your products, you will naturally list the items name and price. Besides that though,
you will want to include a professional product description that gives visitors as much information
as possible about the product. Does the product come in different sizes? Different colors? What
are the dimensions of the product? Give your visitors as much information as possible about your
products. Try to be as brief as possible while at the same time giving all of the information that your
visitors will need. You will want your customers to know exactly what they will be buying. Using
professional images of your products is also very important. A good way to get rid of customers
quickly is to use amateur looking pics. You do not want to post any amateur looking pics for any of
your products. A good picture is worth a thousand words and can help make many sales for you.

Easy to use check out and shopping cart

While your visitors are shopping, you will want to make sure that they can easily add the items that
they want to the shopping cart. You will want to make sure that they can easily see where to click to
add the item to their cart. When they are checking out, you will want to make the checkout process
as easy as possible for them. Remember, the customer just wants to pay for the item and does not
want to be filling out unnecessary information. For this reason, one step checkout pages are very
beneficial to e-commerce site owners.

Easily accessible customer service and FAQ section

Most people who visit an e-commerce site like to know that they can contact the company should
they have any questions. For this reason, you will want to make sure that you have a FAQ section

on your site. You will also want to make sure that visitors can easily contact you if they feel the
need to. Customers should have easy access to a customer service email and telephone number.
