Caught a post this morning that I really liked – it was called “But you’re not saying anything” it is talking about company logos but my favorite line was:
If you price your products like the competition does, you’re not saying anything with your pricing.
This reminds me of something I was talking to my dad about. We were discussing a person who was trying to figure out how much to charge for daycare at a pre-school startup. He was asking me how much the school we used cost and I sad – “it doesn’t matter”.
My point was two-fold. Number one – there is no way you should price your product based on others. What really needs to be done is priced it based on cost. But, especially in the daycare business, you have to price it based on value. Parents want thier kids safe and happy – so they’ll pay more if this is true.
It’s the same game with websites. I jump to the advertiser – if the site has visitors, the kind of visitors the advertisers want…they will pay. Now we just have to figure out what the web site consumer wants…any suggestions?
