I almost thought that Yammer winning the TechCrunch in September was a joke. Seriously, how does a Twitter knock-off win a cool thing like TechCrunch. I mean – wow, how creative. Ooooo, what an innovative idea.
OK, but I love Yammer.
I know – but what I really want to say is I think Yammer should replace email. Most of the stuff people post is relevant, I think it is because they want to appear “cool” to co-workers. They make sure they are clear and concise and relevant. And I believe that 85% of all email could be eliminated if we encouraged people to use Yammer. The other 15% could be either email or direct messages.
What if we eliminated Outlook all together and a server which converts emails to Yammer-direct messages (I don’t think Yammer does direct messages yet, but they could copy it from Twitter) to Yammers. Everything would be web-based and RSS-able. It would be portable, accessible from anywhere and protected the way Yammer is now.
It really might be a innovation/evolution of email. The silly thing (email) has not changed for how long? Plus – we could add in a layer of security to eliminate SPAM too.
I don’t know -maybe its crazy, but we’ve got to keep moving forward!
