The Acer Chromebook 13 CB5-311-T7NN is the entry level model from the Acer Chromebook 13 series, but don’t let that fool you. It has just as much processing power as the higher end models at a fraction of the price. It also has many of the same features including a 13 hour battery, 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0, HD webcam, fanless design and more. The only thing you are sacrificing with this model is a little less RAM and lack of a full HD monitor.
I don’t think that a fanless design in a laptop is emphasized enough. Fans are mechanical parts that can easily be clogged by dust and debris. Over time the fan in your laptop must be cleaned in order for your laptop to continue functioning properly. That usually entails taking the chassis apart to access the fan. A malfunctioning fan can lead to loads of problems including lock-ups, blue screens and even system failure. The fanless design of the Acer Chromebook 13 ensures years of trouble-free use, much like a tablet or smartphone.
NVIDIA Tegra K1 Processor
Acer Chromebook 13 was the very first Chromebook to offer the new NVIDIA Tegra K1 quad-core processor. While this isn’t the very best processor available on the market, it is certainly leaps and bounds ahead of the dual-core celeron option many Chromebooks come with. The Tegra K1 offers loads of computing power along with excellent support for 3D graphics, as you might expect from NVIDIA. The processor alone should put this laptop onto your radar immediately for a solid entry-level pick.
