The Acer Chromebook 15 is the ONLY Chromebook on the market with a 15.6″ screen, and it’s a beauty. The full HD 1920×1080 resolution with IPS technology LCD panel is second only to the Toshiba Chromebook 2. The latest generation of Intel Celeron processor with Broadwell micro-architecture provides some of the best performance you can find in any Chromebook. If you’re looking for a traditional laptop or desktop replacement, the Chromebook 15 from Acer is a winner.
Hardware & Performance
The Acer Chromebook 15 comes with the latest Intel Celeron Dual-Core 3205U 1.5 GHz Processor based on Broadwell micro-architecture. You might be thinking that 1.5 GHz seems rather slow, however, the results of the Google Octane Benchmark are quite favorable. At 13,500 you can expect a huge jump in performance over most Chromebook models, especially those with ARM CPUs.
Google Octane Benchmark: 13,500
I really like the fact that 4 GB is standard on Acer’s Chromebook 15. Yes, you CAN get a 2 GB model, however, you will only save $15-20, so why bother? Odds are if you’re checking out a 15 inch laptop you will want enough performance to actually be able to multitask and get some work done. The 4 GB of RAM works nicely alongside the new Broadwell CPU.
The LCD display is full 1920×1080 HD IPS. The large size and ample screen resolution makes it a lot easier to get things done on this Chromebook. While 1920×1080 HD is available on other Chromebooks, like the Toshiba Chromebook 2, the smaller screen size on the Toshiba makes everything on the screen a lot harder to see. I really love the full 15 inch panel on this laptop. It makes it feel a lot more like a traditional laptop. The display is anti-glare and has an extremely wide viewing angle.
The expansion ports are fairly standard on this model. You get a USB 3.0 port, an additional USB 2.0 port, a headphone jack, HDMI port and, of course, an SD card slot. This makes connecting additional storage and display devices a breeze.
One thing that really makes this laptop stand out is the speakers. The larger design of this laptop allowed the engineers to put the speakers where they belong, alongside the keyboard. Unlike other models, these speakers ACTUALLY FACE YOU. On top of that, the speakers are fairly loud and clear as well.
The first thing you’ll notice on the Acer Chromebook 15 is the spacious keyboard. The keyboard is very tactile and comes loaded with shortcut keys that will help you navigate ChromeOS with ease. It’s a black chiclet style keyboard that contrasts the white case very nicely. The only thing I don’t like about the keyboard is the fact that it doesn’t have a caps lock button. Instead it was replaced with a search button.
The touchpad is not QUITE as nice as the keyboard. It’s a little bit rough compared to touchpads on high-end laptops, however, it does get the job done. It features multi-touch functionality that allows you to use finger gestures to navigate and multi-task.
The all white plastic chassis is very nice and reminds me of a MacBook. The only downside to having an all white case is the fact that it’s going to show any dust or dirt that gets on it. The plastic is somewhat textured which means dirt and grime can get caught in it more easily. It does look great, but keep in mind that you’ll probably have to clean it more often to keep it looking good.
Of course, this is the LARGEST Chromebook currently available. While it’s not necessarily heavy, it’s still much larger than other Chromebooks. It’s a lot easier to throw an 11 inch Chromebook into your backpack than this 15 inch monster.
One downside to this laptop is that it does have a cooling fan for the CPU. I’m not a huge fan of cooling fans and would prefer to see a larger model like this designed to be fanless. On the plus side, the large chassis does dissipate the heat from this computer fairly well. Even if you push it to the max you won’t notice it getting hot. This is great if you plan to keep it on your lap for extended periods of time.

Let’s take a look at what people liked about this model.
The Acer Chromebook 15 is a great choice for media consumption. It’s fast, it looks good, and it has a really nice screen. It is rather larger compared to other models, but makes up for it with a stunning full HD 1920×1080 IPS display that’s head and shoulders above any non IPS displays found in other models. You can even get an upgraded model with an i3 or i5 CPU that makes this an even more powerful traditional laptop or desktop computer replacement.
